The afternoon was spent soaring over the Castle grounds, viewing the many sights and wonders contributed by former Kings and Queens. As evening approached, another small gathering of friends and well-wishers were greeted, this time in the Grand Atrium. As music played and refreshments were served (by the gracious Miss Kelly and the hovering Zoren) , I had the privilege of meeting with Falco and Willie, a fine young 'Tiel I must say I see as a future king, the gorgeous Miss Rika and her flockmate Kiwi, and the soon-to-be-crowned-BOTM MANU. Mango too was there, an acquaintance I'd thought of while eating lunch by the lake; I'd imagined him tempted to don swim gear for a dip in the royal waters! While my gal served up the well-guarded distilled spirits to friend Floop and Romeo, I asked the stunning Miss Sunny if she would join me for a dance in celebration of this wonderful day. With a happy heart, I waltzed her about among the gathered well-wishers, stopping only when I had to adjust my crown, it having slipped off to the side in the exuberance of the dancing. Winking at my friend Kiddo, I straightened the Royal adornment, thinking to myself that I too could quite possibly get accustomed to balancing this coronet, just as my friends Poirot and Pringle had expressed when they'd greeted me. When once again properly attired, I thanked Sunny for the dance.

Realizing the hours were fast dwindling away, I thanked my guest for coming to the Castle to celebrate with me with a toast to all who shared a vote on my behalf the previous day. Then, with a wing around my Jenny Lynn, I bide my friends farewell.

As Jen locked up the last of the precious royal liquids, I took one last stroll through the Castle's halls, listening to the quiet of the greatness there. Many wonderful birds have been here before me. Many wonderful ones are destined to come. The privilege of this chance for myself will not soon be forgotten.

As the Great Clock chimed it's midnight calling, I reached up and removed my crown, placing it gently and reverently on the satin pillow in readiness for the next King of the Day. With a smile of gratitude, I turned and walked out the Great Doors, a commoner again among the greats of the BC.

Thank you, friends, for this memorable experience. Alfie King for a Day, Once Upon a Time...
