Alex, Queen for a Day Part 1
Its a few minutes before midnight as Popeye tiptoes over to Alex’s cage.

“Alex, its Popeye. You’ve been summoned to the castle. You are the next Bird of the Day.”
Alex, still half asleep, stumbles to the waiting carriage and climbs in. A castle guard helps her to her seat and asks, “Are you comfortable, Your Majesty?” Alex hears but doesn’t believe it. “Yes, I’m fine.” She says.

The carriage crosses the drawbridge and slows to a stop in the courtyard. Alex has been here before, but only for parties. The guard opens the door for her and helps her out of the carriage.
“Your Majesty, you must come with me, time is short”. The guard leads Alex through a big door and into a room she’s never been in before. “I’ll take my leave now, Your Majesty, you must wait here”. The guard turns and exits the room.

Alex stands alone in the room for a few moments until a door opens and several servants walk in, along with King Cricket. For what seems like forever, they all stand in silence. Then, King Cricket speaks.

“Bird of the day Alex, step forward.” And so begins the Royal Passing of the Scepter.

The ceremony ends with Cricket bowing to, now Queen Alex, Bird of the Day. Alex stands in the room, looking around, not believing that this is really happening. Then she is let, by her servants, to the royal chambers to rest for the night.

The next morning, Queen Alex is awakened by a soft knock on her door. “Your Majesty, breakfast is being served in 15 minutes.” Queen Alex climbs off her royal sleeping perch and makes herself ready for breakfast. She summons her assistants and is escorted down to the royal dining room where she is served a breakfast fit for a Queen. While eating, she looks over her many messages and one stands out from the rest. It is from her dear friend Ruby, who requests an audience with Queen Alex. So Queen Alex sends the royal carriage to bring Ruby to the baseball stadium and seat her in the royal box. Queen Alex then, starts getting ready to meet her sisters Chilli and Lucky, who will accompany her to the stadium to watch Popeye’s and Calico’s teams play against each other. Meanwhile, Queen Alex’s staff prepares the courtyard for the day’s festivities. Booths are set up as well as food stations. There are also 5 band stands set up for various types of music. Queen Alex bids her staff a good day and heads off to the ball park.
