Kiwi's mom here!
So yesterday, Kiwi was the neediest he's ever been with me! Usually he just squawks at me to give him more food, but yesterday he squawked up a storm because he actually wanted me! I couldn't put him down the whole day- and this morning is the same. He is currently perched on my shoulder preening himself and my hair, while Ichigo is checking out Kiwi's cage. Weird birds I tell ya. I think I'm going to get Ichigo a bigger cage like Kiwi's because he loves that one so much. Or maybe he just likes it because it's not his..... not sure I'll ever know. I found some interesting things about Kiwi's past last night. I started researching his leg band ID, because I saw online somewhere that you can find out of everything just from the bands. It didn't show up in any registries, so I did a google search. His band ID is GLAS MI 02 25, which lead me to the Great Lakes Avicultural Society. I looked them up and learned that they give leg bands to members baby birds. So I e-mailed the person in charge, and she directed me to At Feather's End Aviary in Eaton Rapids, MI. I e-mailed that lady, and it turns out, Kiwi came from her as a baby! He's actually 8 years old (not 5 like the horrible pet shop I rescued him from told me), and the lady is going to go thru her records to find Kiwi's sex as well. She said she had all her babies DNA tested before she sold them. AND I also know who Kiwi's original owner was. Evidentally, Kiwi was sold to this person to be a class and personal pet at a Highschool. Who knew 8 years later, Kiwi's "nest momma," would learn he had such a rough life. From what it sounds like, she is very upset ans she actually stopped breeding birds because of this type of situation. That's why I think people should do background checks before selling anyone a bird! I certainly would! It would certainly keep away the idiots!

Oh yes, money is tight with us too. It's getting much better tho. My husband got a new job last month and he has been working around 50+ hours a week. So we're not by any means well off, but we are able to do things like take in more birds. I'm very thankful for that!
