Kyo is home!
We picked up the Meyer's parrot today! He definately needs some work, but it's nothing I can't handle. He is pretty aggressive, but I think it has alot to do with the fact that he was left in a cage with only 2 toys and not much attention. I was told he used to be very friendly, but once his owners started going to school and working full time, he became very upset. He also has an obsession with a mirror that doesn't help.... He love dances in front of it and when I got close to him today, he protected his "mate" by going into the defensive posture and lunging at me. I think the mirror needs to go bye bye so he can start bonding with me and not his reflection. But other than that, he stepped up onto my hand once I got him home and he let me properly set up his cage and give him treats. I only got one good bite today, but that was my fault as I tried to sit next to my husband with him, completely forgetting that he does not like males. He doesn't like to be by my face or shoulders, but he's alright on my hand and knees. I think in time he'll be a great bird, and he's already very loved! |
