Hi Gidsey,
Happy New Year to you and your wonderful Mom! Thank you for flying by to check up on us. I appreciate your concern.

Lucy's been wearing a big up-side-down Elizabethean (I can hardly say that BIG word!) collar for 1 whole week now, but it only feels like 3 years to her! And she has at least another week to go. It makes her so miserable, but thanks for asking! She'd really like to bite who ever designed that torture chamber. She can't scratch herself, can't hold her food in her little foot, can't preen, can't even get her head in a bowl! Can't do much of anything! She's feeling pretty sorry for herself! Sometimes she just sits and stares off into space, resting her little neck. She looks depressed to me.

She's kinda lousy company these days, but you'd be, too, if you were confined in that neck trap. Momma says it's because she bit holes in her skin and had to be protected from herself. She has to take all this yucky medicine, too, but at least she opens her beaky for Momma and takes it like a good girl. The one good thing is that she's been eating like crazy. Well, there's nothing else for her to do! Momma and Daddy are hand-feeding her. She's getting even more spoiled than she was before, if that's possible!

Actually Momma has her set up pretty nicely in her "doggie" carrier. She has it all padded with a thick, cloth diaper (the old fashioned kind). Over that she puts paper towels which she changes a lot, just like a baby. Her snuggle hut's in there, too. Since she can't get inside of it, she sits on top of flattens out nicely when she sits on it. Momma also put a snuggly in there next to it, and she leans up against it. So I'm sure she's cozy when she sleeps or naps.

During the day, she has some shredding toys that she likes to chew on...since she just wants to rip things to bits in her frustration. She doesn't chew on wood, but she loves paper and wicker balls, especailly wicker balls with paper inside of them. Momma holds her alot and scratches her little head cuz it itches. Momma's trying to figure out how to preen all her new feathers that have started growing in, too. There are hundreds of them, but she's not at all successful. Lucy doesn't like it either. Momma's not a bird and doesn't know the first thing about preening like we do.

I guess that's about all there is to tell right now. Only time will tell if she'll continue to pluck when that collar comes off. But if she does, I'm sure it will go right back on her. The main thing is to get her skin healed up and prevent her from making more holes in hrself. Momma says that she could get an infection and get very sick. I sure don't want that to happen. Please ask your Mom to pray for little Lucy, would you please? We'd really appreciate it. Big Hugs, from Finnegan
