Hi Sammy!
I picked up a brochure at my cable company (they provide me my internet), and it has some REALLY good tips, and I thought I would share them with you:
1)NEVER provide personal logins, usernames, passwords, soc. security or credit card numbers in response to e-mails, text messages, or pop-ups.
2)Delete or block SPAM MESSAGES-do not open them-even to "opt out" or "unsubscribe".
3)Protect your online accounts with strong passwords, and change them regularly.

Social Networking tips:
Only acce[t "friend" requests from people you really know.
REMEMBER, profiles can be FAKED.
Anyone can create an online profile that may be used to trick you into becoming their friend.
NEVER post personal info that could be dangerous in the wrong hands.
THINK TWICE about each picture you post-they can be easily saved to ANYONE'S computer. And don't be afraid to ask your friends to remove pictures or videos of you if you're uncomfortable with the posting.
KEEP your profile private to ensure strangers can't access your page through one of your friend's pages.

LEARN about and utilize social networking sites privacy and security options.
USE "geo-tagging" or "Social Mapping" WITH CAUTION, as certain applications can automatically share your current location.

I hope this helps your mom, Sammy. My mom has had her own identity compromised, as someone stole a briefcase FULL OF personal identification on several thousands of US Armed Forces veterans, of which Mom is one. And the VA representative who HAD his/her briefcase stolen , was VERY CARELESS to begin with, as far as leaving it (although very briefly)UNATTENDED.
So your mom is NOT alone. I hope these tips , esp. the social networking ones, will help her out more. AND IT IS SO VERY GOOD to hear from you, too , Sammy! Mommy hasn't been blogging anyone too much lately, as she is busy making pretty beaded ornament covers.I have to go , but I will stop by again soon, and talk to you about regular BIRDY stuff, ok? Love ya, Coco
