Dear Sadie,
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and concern for me. The main thing that Mommy was concerned with (about me) was my open wound. Of course, she’d love me with or without feathers, but feathers are warmer here in Michigan! The best thing for me has been this elizabethan collar that I’ve been wearing for almost 3 weeks now. It's been pitiful for Mommy to watch how I’ve had to struggle with it and how uncomfortable it’s been for me, but it's amazing how I’ve adjusted to it. Don't get me wrong, I still HATE it! But it’s this torture collar that has been the only thing that has allowed my skin to heal and my feathers to grow back. My little chest is filling in very nicely. My back is slower, but those feathers are coming in now, too.

I went to the vet for a collar change last Monday. It's one that snaps and Mommy can take it off. So last Wednesday she took it off for the first time and let me have a bath and preen. You can just imagine how many new feathers I had to preen...literally hundreds, maybe a thousand! Anyway, I was SO happy, I just can't tell you! I was doing so well, that she left it off for hours! I did not pluck, I just sat there enjoying the freedom from that awful collar. Then Mommy made a very bad mistake....she ran out to the store for a little while and left my collar off. She just wanted me to be happy and comfortable for the day. Well when she got back, there I was with a very little semi circle of feathers plucked out around her neck!! It was Mommy’s fault, to think I wouldn't do it while she was gone. I think part of my problem is some kind of separation anxiety! So, immediately Mommy said to me, "You've been plucking again, Baby!" And of course, I knew exactly what she was saying. I took off, flying away from her and trying to hide!!! Mommy had to follow me around for a little while, while I kept trying to evade her. I finally stepped up and she immediately put my collar back on. I was NOT a happy camper, but then Mommy wasn’t either! That just told her that I couldn’t be trusted when no one is home.

It's been on ever since until this morning. Mommy took it off and let me take a bath. Ooh, that felt SO good! I spent the next two hours just preening away. I had so many new feathers on my back that needed my attention. I didn’t pluck any either. It's just amazing how fast they’ve grow in. That must be a testimony to my general good health. I continue to take my calcium and Booster every morning and my gabapentin every evening. My wounds are finally healed, and to that Mommy and I say, “Praise the Lord!!” Thank you, my wonderful friend for caring so much about me and for praying for me. Please continue to keep me in your prayers until Mommy is sure that I am well again, because I could relapse at any time, but this is the good news for now. I love you, my dear friend. Hugs and Kisses from your grateful friend, Little Miss Lucy♥
