Hi Salty!
Zebers here again with the, I'm sure, long awaited update on Huey. First and foremost, he is doing VERY well, so now you can relax and read the rest! Mommy wanted me to apologize...she's been busy and so stressed and worried that she didn't get a chance to type for me until now. Well, Huey's surgery was supposed to be on Wednesday but they wanted to give him one more day to eat up and get a bit more weight on, so he didn't have surgery until about 10:30 this morning (Thursday). The vet was worried because his liver looks enlarged in the x-rays and his liver enzymes were high in is blood chemistry. He also had low calcium, protein, albumin and glucose, high white blood cells and was slightly anemic. The vet said that because he was on a good diet that most of the levels being off were either due to trauma or blood loss. And the high white blood cell count was due to a slight infection, but he's been on antibiotics since the accident, so she's not too worried about that. So they got him in to surgery this morning and got a pin in to hold his bone together but his body temperature dropped too low so they quick bandaged him up and woke him up (dropping temps is one of the dangers of anesthesia). He woke up quickly which they were very happy to see, but that means that he has to have another surgery yet. They are thinking probably on Saturday morning. So he's still at the hospital and we really miss him a lot around here! But mommy went to go visit him (the hospital is 100 miles away!) and she said that all the lady doctors are spoiling him rotten!! See, these doctors are use to working with raptors (eagles, hawks etc) and it's not very often that they get a beautiful parrot in...they actually moved his incubator into their office so that they can keep watch over him and they were feeding him grapes and bananas and apples out of their own lunches! Sheesh, if he's not spoiled here, he's spoiled at the hospital! But he's charming the heck out of all of kisses and clicking and whistling all sweet. *rolls eyes* Anyway, he is definitely fighting with everything he's got and mommy says that he is SO brave and strong. Thank you so much for all of your prayers and love. Mommy copies your messages and brings them with to read to Huey when she visits! You are all wonderful! Beaky kisses!! ~Zebers for my frother Huey
