Hello Merlin
We are back from our 10 days on the water. Wow what fun. I could live there forever.. I even got to drive the Yacht.. lol (actually Daddy just let me sit on top the captains wheel with autopilot on). I had my flight harness on just in case a large gust of wind came by or I got the itch to just take flight. Daddy took a whole bunch of pictures of Samson and I while we were out in the Chesapeake Bay. He will post them soon, along with some really good video's. We came back and anchored just inside of Fishing Bay Harbor cove where the Piankatank river meets the Chesapeake Bay to watch the sunset and spend a couple nights.
Samson was not in his harness at all during the 10 days. He puts up quite a fuss to put it on and daddy did not want to get bit.
But, Samson who rarely ever flies, took off from his perch from our Memorial Day cookout party at the captain’s lounge and patio & pool. With us being up on a hill, above the fairway where all of the boats are docked, Sam soon found himself at least 40 feet off the ground heading out over the waterway to the other side.
Daddy was in awe at how beautiful Samson looked with the wind in his wings and him soaring so high.
Daddy did not panic, but kept his eyes on Samson. Samson very quickly decided that his wings were already tired (because he rarely flies, not enough wing exercise) so Samson banked right 90 degrees almost back towards our side of the marina. Samson dropped his altitude quickly as he saw he was heading right for the side of the wall that started the covered boat slips. Instead of banking again to the right another 90 degrees to get back on land, he opted for a water landing... Needless to say we had at least 70+ people who were at the party watching, as they all had previously come up to greet Samson (and of course ME, Delilah…) and say hello and listen to him sing and talk and do silly tricks. (me too!)
Sam has flown into the water before and surprised us all that he can swim just fine. Same with this time.. However Samson was on a 6x6 beam 1/2 inch above the rising current tide/water line. He swam to the side and climbed on the sea-wall beam/brace and was there yelling “MA MA”.... (Even though it is ALWAYS Daddy that comes to save him). The beam he was on was about 4 feet below the boardwalk and his tail was still in the water. He was indeed stuck there unable to climb up the vertical sea wall and the water was rising (tide coming in). Daddy climbed down the seawall and stood on the beam/brace and extended his hand and Samson immediately hopped on. Sam had his crest puffed up all in the air and was happy to be back on Daddy’s arm. EVERYONE CHEERED AND CLAPPED. Samson was so full of himself, showing off.
Samson is about 10% overweight and comparable to a flying brick. Not very graceful and cannot go far. But it sure was a BEAUTIFUL AWESOME SIGHT to see him up, up, up in the sky with his wings catching air. What a high! Daddys heart and mind was right there with Samson up there in the
