Wow! Aren't you a cutie? Across the hall once again, we see the small flight aviary. This room is used for a number of purposes. It currently houses a peregrine, but the pic below is of the fledgling screech owls who were in there a while ago. We have housed mourning doves, killdeer, ducklings, and many other species in here. It's basically for small raptors, to make sure they can hunt and land successfully before release, but it has also become a room for any species who flocks, needs some extra time or space to grow, or privacy. It has perches and hide spots, lots of greenery, and room to maneuver for small raptors. There is also pegboard hanging in case we house swifts in there. (Swifts cling to walls, don't live in nests once they hatch.) Again, each species housed here has its own special diet, and is fed appropriately. This might be a good time to tell you the center does up to 20 loads of laundry a day in the summer, and washes and sterilizes literally hundreds of dishes each day. Animals get fresh linens, fresh curtains, and fresh food and water bowls daily. Thanks for your continued support, here's a hug and vote today. Willie |
