Hi BeGe
We are detouring today into the RVS room indoors. The center has 4 outdoor enclosures for RVS(Rabies vector species) animals, as well as a large pen outdoors where both waterfowl and older skunks are kept, but these photos were taken in the RVS nursery. This is a room with double locked doors that only certain volunteers may enter. Those with pre-exposure rabies shots are permitted to work with these animals. In here are all the mammals you didn't see in the mammal nursery; infant skunks, raccoons, foxes, ground hogs, and bats. The pics below show a somewhat older raccoon and fox who aren't big enough to go outside yet. By now, they are both out there, and the raccoons have mostly been released. The foxes will go after about 16 weeks of age. The center deals with over 100 raccoons each year, and usually one or 2 foxes. This year, there are 6 foxes, both red and gray kinds, who need separate facilities, so not only are all the RVS enclosures in use, the center has also dedicated 2 outdoor aviaries with limited access to the foxes. Baby season is winding down now, so most of the mammals are getting out soon, or have been released already. Hugs and a vote, Willie
