Hi BeGe
Well, since we detoured to the treatment room yesterday, let's peek in at the nurseries today. In the mammal nursery, there are a fox squirrel and gray squirrel side by side, and we can see a baby squirrel getting fed. This is what mom and the other fosters do at home before they are weaned. Fosters can take their babies to the center to feed if they are on a shift, though. The second pic is of another baby bunny on the verge of release. Bunnies may breed 5 times over the summer, so the center always has bunnies of various ages in the bunny room all season long. We're coming into the home stretch now, and I need to talk about the guts of the building, where volunteers put in a ton of time. That's the back 1/4 of the building, where the kitchen and laundry areas are located. There are about 20 loads of laundry every day all summer long, but we just got an industrial washer and dryer donated, so that will cut down on loads done. It can hold up to 20 lbs of wash at a time, YAY!!! There are also 2 freezers and one refrigerator, recently installed by the Animal Rescue League. These replace 2 old freezers and 2 old refrigerators that had been there for ages, since mom started. One of the refrigerators was so old, it needed defrosted every couple of weeks! There is also a large linen storage area in this part of the building, as well as food cupboards, large metal cans with dry foods, such as birdseed, rabbit food, etc., and a room with kennels of various sizes for taking animals out on programs or for their enclosures, as hides. At the sinks, you're likely to see a volunteer washing and disinfecting dishes almost all day long, too. Well, that's the very back of the building, I'll be back tomorrow with more animals! Hugs and a vote for you, Willie
