Angie Hendrickson has always had a special bond with birds, from her days of playing tag with her neighbors’ geese to declaring vegetarianism in solidarity with the chicks in the mall at Easter. Her parents finally let her get a cockatiel when she was in high school, hoping it would deter her from keeping injured wild birds in shoeboxes until they were ready to fly again (it didn’t). She has used this connection to work with emotionally traumatized and unstable pet birds, often ones that had been written off as unreachable. While these birds may start off as biters or feather pickers, Hendrickson believes in creating a foundation of patience and trust to help these birds adjust to their new, better lives.
Hendrickson has worked with BirdChannel since 2011, starting with Bird Term of the Day and now writes many of the BirdChannel quizzes. She has a degree in English from the University of Wisconsin and currently lives just outside of Madison, where she works as an editor for one of Amazon.com’s subsidiaries and coaches high school softball. She shares her home with Maximillian’s Pionus, Paco; white-capped Pionus, Dill; and an incredibly intelligent Jardine’s parrot named Chomper, as well as four cats: Alice, Max, Monster, and Rosie Sparkle.
