Marissa Heflin is a freelance writer for various I-5 Publishing business-to-business and consumer publications.

Heflin is a former senior news editor of the B-to-B publications Veterinary Practice News, Pet Product News International, Pet Style News and Water Garden News, all sister publications of BIRD TALK Magazine. While at BowTie (now I-5 Publishing, LLC), she also wrote news items for Bird Talk Magazine and BirdChannel.com as well as other I-5 Publishing affiliated consumer publications and websites.

Collectively, Heflin has been writing and editing for magazines for nearly 10 years. She also has experience as a veterinary nurse and at one point helped manage one of the veterinary clinic's adjoining pet stores.

Heflin has always had a love for animals and enjoys incorporating this passion into her professional and personal life. Her household recently included two furry friends, a 17-year-old cat and 11 1/2-year-old German shepherd mix, but both have passed on. She looks forward to when the time is right to welcome additional four-legged or even winged friends into her family.

Heflin currently lives in the country in Northern California with her husband and very active 2-year-old. She loves being a full-time mom and teaching her son the wonders of nature, animals and gardening.

Heflin has a degree in English with a writing emphasis and a Biology minor.
