Bird Feather Destruction Checklist

Use this checklist if your observe your bird feather picking

1. Have your bird examined by a veterinarian who practices avian medicine.

2. Determine the length of time the bird has been feather picking.

3. Examine all known physical and emotional factors in the bird’s environment.

4. Determine when and where the bird is most likely to destroy its feathers.  Observe, as well, the manner in which the bird destroys its feathers.

5. Contact an experienced companion bird behavior consultant.

6. Dedicate your time to, and focus on, eliminating the problem.

7. If all attempts to eliminate the problem fail, remember that your bird is not really trying to drive you crazy, it only seems that way; and, that “bald is beautiful.”
