Moodiness

Moodiness describes a shift in disposition of a pet bird.

DEFINITION OF MOODINESS

Just like people, parrots are quite capable of having moods, and owners need to be aware of this fact.

WHAT TO DO

As with people, astute observation of body language can forewarn the parrot owner when their psittacine is “not in the mood” to interact. Such observation can prevent hurt feelings, as experienced parrot people know when to leave their feathered friends alone until they are feeling less temperamental. A pet parrot that “got up on the wrong side of the perch” will exhibit body language indicating its testiness, and educated owners know to stay clear until the bird settles down. See “Aggression” in this index for a detailed description of such warning body language. Not all moods are negative, of course, though the troublesome ones get the most attention.

Might a little video of these behaviors be added to the index?
