Weak Legs

Weak legs describes a pet bird that cannot, or will not, use its legs to Step Up or stand.

DEFINITION OF WEAK LEGS

Weak legs connotes that a parrot is too weak to stand. On the other hand, some parrots play a game in which they act as if their legs are rubbery, so they cannot step onto the hand or back into their cage.

CAUSES OF WEAK LEGS

If a pet parrot is truly too weak to stand, this is a medical emergency and the bird needs to see an avian veterinarian immediately. On the other hand, if the bird is playing at having spaghetti legs (my macaw snickers and rolls on her back during this game), then no veterinary intervention is necessary.

WHAT TO DO

Enjoy the game, if it is being played at an appropriate time. If it is being played instead when the owner is late for work, behavior modification is needed to give the person better control of the situation.
