Calling All Pet Bird Owners!

By Amy Baggs
Follow Amy's adventures in A Day In The Pet Bird Store.

Kramer, an umbrella cockatoo
Kramer, an umbrella cockatoo, loves to show off when Amy takes him to an event.

Amy's pet bird Babu
Amy likes to take Babu out for lunch and a walk out at the harbor.

My name is Amy and I belong to a large flock of parrots that includes species from a conure to a Poicephalus to cockatoos to macaws! Oh, and I cannot forget Floyd, my older Amazon! And as if my pet parrots do not create enough noise, I work at an exotic bird store, Omar’s Exotic Birds.

My parrot blog will be about any adventures I have with my birds or any outrageous happenings at the bird store! Whether it be taking Bubu, my older macaw, out for lunch and a walk at the harbor or tracking down the male Eclectus at the store that loves to decide when he is tired and puts himself to bed. He does this even if it’s in the afternoon — he embarks on a huge walkabout to get to his night cage while trying to avoid any of us working that day, because we would put him back on his playstand.

As part of my job, I take my pet birds and baby parrots to different events to educate people about these wonderful and loving creatures. This is so much fun. To see the reactions on children’s faces when umbrella cockatoo Kramer struts his stuff and screeches when they laugh! I have a few events lined up so stay-tuned to see the outcomes, which are always funny and touching.

In future blogs, I will be post pictures or videos. I love photography. The results of putting together my two loves leave me speechless. Check back to see some of my photos. Soon, I will try to get a video of Squirt, the store’s mascot, throwing his little stuffed animal at the kids visiting him.

I hope you find this parrot blog interesting and check out my future blogs about my days enriched with parrots and their wackiness.

I want to thank you & everyone who appreciates, loves, and cares for a parrot or any other exotic animal THAT SHOULD NOT BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. I have rescued & adopted and personnaly believe so called pet stores & accompanying breeders are more interested in the $ & can trully care less for the life they sell ... similar to slavery is it not. BUT, I do respect and appreciate any & all who not only understand, but appreciate 'these' other forms of life.

I work in a pet store and I attempt to educate anyone who is interested in my birds about their needs. When I sell a bird, I usually end up on the back porch crying. I provide care sheets and phone numbers for follow-up questions to all my customers. We have some rescue birds that we are very particular about placing. It is a delicate balancing job because we all love our babies.
