Go to Sesame Street!
By Laura Doering
Join in on Laura's fun and experiences of bird ownership, and share in her adventures as the editor of BIRD TALK, the world’s most widely read pet bird magazine, in Wayward Feathers.
Last month, I wrote about how parrot behaviorists recommend letting your bird watch TV as an enrichment activity but how it contrasts with child behaviorists, who don’t recommend much toddler time in front of the TV. (Read here.) Well, one program they can both probably enjoy together and learn from is the childhood standard “Sesame Street,” which also just happens to have a giant canary as a principal character. Yes, Big Bird, for the record, is a canary.
What bird or child wouldn’t like “Sesame Street?” It’s got colorful characters and sing-a-longs!
Try it out on your flock. To see the “Sesame Street” effect on parrots, check out this happy African grey! Check it out here.
