News of Michael Jackson’s death yesterday was a total shock. Who can forget those dance moves, and I am certain that anyone who grew up in the ‘80s at least attempted to Moonwalk.
I thought it might be befitting to share this fascinating video of the incredible courtship display of the male red-capped manakin (Pipra mentalis). There are a couple versions of this “Nature” program segment that ran on PBS, but I think this longer version gives incredible insight to these agile birds (watch to the end to see the incredible moonwalk moves). You might also notice that, yet again, Mother Nature gave the female bird the dowdy color (she’s the faint green one, I believe).
