I love being on all my parrot-related e-mail lists. I get many ideas for my blogs by reading what is talked about on them.

One member just got a new SUV that could fit all her parrots if it became necessary to evacuate them quickly for some emergency reason.
 
I used to love our big conversion van. I called it the “evacuation van.”

But we don't have it anymore and conversion vans are pretty much non existent now, so I'd like to get a nice size SUV.

Thing is we have six cars and a truck, but there is no way we could get 14 birds in any one of them!

I drive a sedan, my husband drives a truck. The rest of them are classic or antique cars!

Shhhh, don't tell my husband, but what I'd like to do is to get those cars out of that garage and convert it into a beautiful big aviary! That's not going to happen any time soon. But I can dream!

Speaking of dreams ...
 
While visiting family in Florida we happened upon the perfect thing for us and our flock.

We had to stop to check it out and take photos, of course. Hey, if I'm going to dream, I mught as well dream big!

A bus like this would be great. Not only for emergency evacuations, but we would never have to worry about getting a bird sitter or leaving our birds behind again. Unfortunately, it would require a huge lottery win to afford this “dream-come-true” bus!
 
Another dream of mine is to get a big, beautiful outdoor aviary for my birds so that they can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature during the warmer summer months.
 
Every time we visit my friend Carol, whose birds do enjoy a beautiful aviary (see a photo here), I come home inspired even more to work toward doing the same for our own birds.

We do have an unused screened-in deck on the back of the house; however, and since we recently built a new deck off of our family room I am now going to revamp the other deck into a place for the birds’ outdoor cages.
 
Along with the new year comes new dreams of things I want to do to make my parrots’ lives fuller and more enjoyable. What dreams do you have for your birds in the new year and years to come?

I think every bird lover wants an outdoor aviary. Mine would be stainless steel and big with a huge cargo net for my Macaw and Cockatoo to enjoy. Charles, Orlando, FL Posted: 1/7/2010 12:07:56 PM You certaily have a lot of birds to move - if you really had to! In a real emergency, I think you may need a dark pillowcase for each bird. Put the birds in the cases and do you best to pile them in the car. I always keep a dark pillowcase near the bird cage to grab my parrot & run if there were a fire, or some kind of gas leak. True, with one bird, I could tuck her in my jacket, but it would be hard to drive. There is so much to consider when planning for our birds. For me, I have to consider the wild animals and birds in our area, so an outdoor aviary isn't really something I would want, unless I could be out there with them the whole time. So, I'm hoping for the screen porch with skylights off the west side of the barn we renovated to give the birds flight room. I can be out with them, they could still enjoy the "outside" and feel safe at the same time. I would like to add more places to play inside. Along the west wall, we have 16' of windows. I would really like to figure out a way to have play areas there. The only problem is, that's one of my kitchen counters. There's got to be a way to have them there and keep it clean, right?
