Grey Matters

I just subscribed again to National Geographic and was delighted when I received my first issue, March 2008. On the cover was a Border Collie with the blurb, “Inside Animal Minds.”  Of course, the delight was immediately followed by the thought, “They should have put Alex on the cover.” So I was gladdened when I looked inside and there was Alex on page 43.

There are about three pages in there about Alex, things that most of us who were fans already know. However, I love that even though Alex has died, he is still remembered as such an incredible mind and spirit. We all can only hope to be remembered that way.

There are several other birds in the article plus fish, apes, dolphins and Betsey, the Border Collie, which graced the issue’s cover. If you get a chance, check out the issue.

Alex was such an inspiration it only makes sense to include him

I, too, read this article, and I loved it! I was so happy to see the article on Alex. I remember seeing a video featuring Alex, and I immediately wanted an African Grey. Luckily, I was too young to get one! While I would love a Grey someday, no parrot should be bought because they look cute. I also found the information on the dolphins to be highly engrossing.
