Feeding Baby Parrotlets

Some quick tips on how to feed your baby parrotlets and what you should be feeding them.

Q: Is it better to use a spoon or a syringe when hand-feeding baby parrotlets? And what kind of diet would you feed them?

Linda RubinSandee Molenda explains:

It is much easier and there is less of a chance to aspirate when hand-feeding parrotlet chicks with a syringe rather than a spoon. Almost any commercial hand-feeding formula is good to feed parrotlet chicks. It really is a preference of the breeder as to consistency, smell and, most importantly, availability. I do not recommend to start feeding one brand of formula and then switch to another.

This is more of a question...when your parrot is 5 weeks of age, how many times should you hand feed? I am watching the crop to be sure it is empty, and am feeding 4 times a day right now. Thank you for your time! It is a senegal parrot.
