I am so grateful that there is a place to talk about our beloved babies. I cry as I write this. Bird people really are a special breed. This year I lost my darling Love Bird. I had him from the cradle to the grave. He was always nuzzled in my neck, kissing me, or bossing me around. In the end, he waited for me to come home and hold him so he could die with me. We were family ever since he hatched 16 yrs ago. My friends try to comfort me by telling me that he had the best life. I know this to be true but to me, it never seems acceptable. I have larger parrots that I love too but nothing can compare to the love that this little guy gave. I miss him terribly.

My bird died over two years ago. I was so devastated I started writing him a letter. It got kept getting longer and I ended up with enough material for a memoir. I have posted the first pages of it on my website alexawolfonline.com. People who have read these pages (under "My Little Bird - Excerpts") said it gave them a good cry and some laughs as well. I hope it will help others.
