Kathy Libby of New Hampshire said that her budgies aren’t picky about what they eat, but chopped carrots are a favorite.

• 2 hard boiled eggs
• 1 cup bread crumbs (not seasoned)
• 1/2 cup chopped carrots

1) Chop up the hard-boiled eggs and crumble the shell into the mixture. Make sure that the eggs are cooled and not too hot.|

2) Add in the cooked brown rice. The rice should be at room temperature before you serve it to your parakeets.

When you cook eggs for your bird, you can add the egg shells into the mixture to add a calcium boost.

3) Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl.

4) Spoon into your budgie’s dish and serve.

Libby sprinkled millet on top of the egg mash when she first began serving it to her budgies. She said that the millet helped her parakeets get used to the new flavors introduced in the recipe.
