After The Earthquake

Keep your pet bird safe after an earthquake with these pet bird tips.

1) If you have to relocate your pet bird’s cage outside for a period of time, make sure that you have adequate protection from the elements, such as a tarp or pop-up tent to place it in.

2) Power may be out during an earthquake, so take care when burning candles if you have pet birds nearby. Carbon monoxide released from a candle can be deadly, as can certain types of wicks. Have pet-bird-safe candles on hand , or battery-operated lanterns.

Candles and earthquakes do not mix! Stock up on Cyalume (or equivalent) light sticks instead. They are safe lighting in an environment filled with aftershocks. Candles start a large number of fires every year even without earthquakes knocking them over!
