These days, if your parrot is feeling under the weather and you take him to the veterinarian, your bird may very well be prescribed an antibiotic or antifungal medication. But in addition, your veterinarian might also suggest a herbal supplement, a little aloe vera in the bird’s drinking water, an acupuncture session or some other natural or holistic treatment. More and more veterinarians, like exotics veterinarian Robert Ness, DVM, of Illinois, are taking this type of “integrative” approach to pet care — meaning the utilization of conventional medicine and holistic therapies.
