I devised the following recipe to sneak some nutrition into my stubborn Amazons’ diets at breakfast time:
Parrot Omelet
Ingredients:
- 2 egg whites or Egg Beaters® equivalent of 2 eggs
- 2 medium-sized broccoli florets
- 1/2 medium-sized carrot, cut into slices (substitute butternut squash or sweet potatoes if you wish)
- 1 heaping tablespoon of “pellet powder” (grind pellets in a blender or food processor until it’s the consistency of corn meal)
Recipe Instructions:
Put all ingredients in a blender, and mix until vegetables are pureed.
Pour mixture into pre-heated, greased frying pan and cook as you would an omelet, until firm and lightly bronzed on each side. Add additional vegetables as desired.
When cool, cut into small 1/2-inch squares.
Feed each bird in your flock one or two squares a day.
