Tips for a clean and healthy home for you and your bird

By Susan Chamberlain

DON’T HATE YOURSELF BECAUSE YOUR HOME ISN’T PERFECTLY PRISTINE. How can it be when your bird leaves droppings in unbecoming places, throws food everywhere and its little down feathers float happily in the breeze? But keeping your home clean is vital to you and your bird’s health. Take a look around: How clean is your home?

What’s On The Floor?
Dogs, cats and people track in dirt, bacteria and mold from outdoors. Birds fling fruit and other food into the mix, and the microbial count soars! Dust and dander become embedded in carpet fibers. The solution? Keep your bird in a room with an easy-to-wash floor. Protect the floor with washable throw rugs, and launder them frequently. Do not permit your bird to walk around on the floor in areas where it might pick up unsanitary or toxic materials.
