Three groups of researchers working independently have announced significant advances in our understanding of Proventricular Dilatation disease (PDD). Investigators in San Francisco and New York have identified the presence of a unique virus, Avian Bornavirus, in the tissues of PDD-affected birds. Investigators at the Schubot Center at Texas A&M University have been able to grow this agent and have developed a diagnostic test for the infection.
