Baby Beaks

Young parrots are guided by their beaks

By Vanessa Rolfe, DVM

The beak to the parrot is what the hand is to a person. Just as a hand can be used to caress, hold a fork, for the sense of touch or for punching someone, a beak can be used for these functions as well. Just because the parrot uses its beak on you does not mean it is trying to cause damage or that it is using its beak to intimidate you. Your baby bird might bite due to many reasons, not all of which is due to aggression. Don’t reprimand for a behavior that is a natural instinct, it might highly confuse your bird; like scolding a baby for reaching for a toy.
