Unlike us, our pet birds are on their feet all day. The right mix of perches can mean the difference between a healthy feet and a precursor to foot health problems. Make sure your bird is receiving the best foot care by following these tips.

My cockatiel had bumblefoot before. She had the pressure point and the infection. Her vet put her on antibiotics, but it was very painful for her when he got the pass out and cleaned it. He told me to keep any kind of rough perches out of her cage, like those used to trim the nails. She always had a variety of perches, but since then she no longer gas a sand one.

I didn't know the word "bumblefoot", but did learn about perch sizing through Birdtalk Magazine.

This article was wonderful and informative. I am a licensed wildlife rehabilator and am sharing it with my fellow rehabilitators who commonly treat bumblefoot and other foot problems related to perching.
