A photography exhibit launched in Connecticut celebrates young parrots’ lives

By Nancy Pindrus

For many of us who love and live with parrots, these silly, wise, bright and comical creatures become like our children. As a parrot owner and professional photographer, I, of course, enjoy photographing my “kids.” It wasn’t until Bill McGrath of Parrots and Company, an avian-only store in Stamford, Connecticut, asked me to take some shots of the store’s nursery section that I began focusing on young parrots. From this project came my first photo exhibit, “Sweet Beginnings — An Intimate Look at the Life of Baby Parrots,” which was made up of 26 images. I am happy to say that they were well-received by the public — little ambassadors from the feathered world to our own. On these pages, you can see a selection of those photographs.

As a Professional Photographer, I loved seeing this work of photos. Since owning my conure, I have also started to enjoy photographing him/her as aviary photography is not what I am accustomed to, it is a challenge but worth it.
