“Macaw Mama” tells us how to bring out the fun in an aviary setting

Q & A with Kashmir Csaky

Q: What enrichment opportunities can you create in an aviary that you can’t do in a home environment?
A:The environment that we can create for any bird is only limited by our pocketbook or our imagination. Over all, aviary birds are kept in larger enclosures and therefore they have more opportunity to fly than most pet birds.

Q:How do you add play opportunities for birds housed in an aviary?
A: When multiple birds are housed together, it is very import to realize that they are more likely to hurt themselves or others. Consequently, many of the toys we would provide for a single bird would be inappropriate when there are two or more birds housed together.
