Create your own bird-friendly cleansers

By Diane Grindol

Bird-Safe Cleaning Solution RecipesSpray cleaner: Mix 1 teaspoon borax, 2 tablespoons white vinegar and 2 cups hot water. Mix and fill a spray bottle for an easy multiple-purpose cleanser.

Scouring powder: Place baking soda in a bowl. Dampen a sponge and use it to scoop up some baking powder. Baking soda works great scrubbing down perches and cage bars.

Disinfectant scouring powder: Mix 1 cup baking soda with ¼ cup of borax. Apply the solution with a sponge or brush and then rinse well.

Disinfectant: Mix ½ cup borax, ¼ cup white vinegar and 2 gallons hot water. Wash with a mop or sponge. Rinse thoroughly

Vinegar mold killer: Use white vinegar to scrub areas with mold. Rinse well.

Excellent, thank you!

I also wish you'd post a solution for cleaning the oven. I have a self cleaning, but I know I can't use that with my cockatiel. So I'd love to know what I can mix up that will take the baked on mess off.

Thanks

I read in a previous article you can spray the cage with Pam (without bird around of course), allow to dry and easy wipe off! I gave it a try and wow! I use to dread cleaning my lorikeet's cage as it took over 45 minutes to scrub it, now in 5 minutes it just wipes clean!
