Birds USA: Think Medium!

Cherished by many, these medium-sized parrots offer something for everyone

By Jessica Pineda

Are you fascinated by the larger birds, but find their size too intimidating? Not to mention, the room required for the larger parrots can break anyone’s budget. Well look no further than to the medium-sized parrots! These just-my-size parrots have spunk, color, cuddliness and intellect to match any parrot of any size.

Colorful Conures
Playful, fun-loving, bold and inquisitive are all traits that describe a conure, but one word is true for them all: loud! Native to South America, conures come in all shapes and sizes, and depending on the individual species, they range from an average of 9 to 21 inches long and have a life span of 20 to 25 years. They are highly attractive birds that come in a multitude of colors, with a spunky, outgoing personality to match. They can be taught to perform tricks and are known for talking, but they often express themselves vocally with high-pitched screeches and other calls.

Conures make an excellent pet — if the owner is ready to deal with the noise level!
