Whatever age you choose to befriend a bird you can find a perfect pal. Children benefit from birds that can be fairly easy to handle.
“Young children are often fascinated by birds, and it’s a good time for adults to encourage an interest in birds,” said Jan Strother, DVM, director of North Alabama Cat and Bird Veterinary Clinic in Hartselle, Ala. “Budgies, cockatiels and canaries are better species to introduce to children, species that are not too aggressive and which [responsible] children can care for.”
