Though cockatiels and rabbits share the kinship of being prey animals, you’ll probably need to look out for your rabbit in this matchup. A cockatiel might take it upon itself to preen your rabbit’s fur, which can be frightening to a rabbit. Your cockatiel may even find the antics of a rabbit entertaining. If a cockatiel has a tendency to break out into a hearty whistle whenever the moment strikes, your rabbit might appreciate a quiet area so it can enjoy its mid-day nap. Also important to note is that rabbits are like little vacuums, constantly checking the floor beneath your cockatiel’s cage for fallen food. While this may help keep your cockatiel’s room clean, it could cause gastro upset in your rabbit; another reason to be diligent about vacuuming your cockatiel’s area.
When considering adding to your pet family, keep in mind how a new addition will be perceived by your cockatiel. Never force your cockatiel to interact with a pet he appears to be afraid of, no matter how sincere the intent might be. Curious about how your cockatiel might matchup with other pets?
