The yellow-eared parrot was made the official bird of the Municipality of Jardin, Department of Antioquia in Colombia, and it has also been included on the town's shield. Fundación ProAves proposed this to the town council and it was officially approved November 24, 2009.
During a town council meeting earlier in 2009, various modifications were proposed for the shield, include the yellow-eared parrot to acknowledge its importance in the community; as well as replacing an orchid with a flower species endemic to the municipality, Pasiflora jardinensis; adding water between the Citara mountains; and making a new species of tree endemic to the area, Magnolia jardinensis, the official tree.
