Animal welfare groups with a great success story can win up to $100,000 in a contest sponsored by Petco Foundation and food manufacturer Halo, Purely for Pets.

The Holiday Wishes campaign will award $250,000 in grants—$100,000 for first place, $50,000 for second, $25,000 for third and from $5,000 to $10,000 to 10 runner-up organizations.

All entries must be submitted by November 22, 2013. The winner will be announced in December.

"By sharing some of their stories through this campaign, we hope to raise awareness and increase the number of animals spending this holiday season where they belong: in loving homes with the care and support they deserve,” said Susanne Kogut, executive director of Petco Foundation.

The sponsors are looking for a story about one animal saved by a rescue group since July 1, 2011.

"We recommend that your submission be short, concise and explain as much of the following information as possible: the condition of the animal on intake, any known information about why the animal was in a situation of need, the work that your organization did to save the animal, and any information about the new home and family,” according to the contest rules.

Story narratives are limited to 500 words, but photographs and videos will be accepted as well.

Halo, based in Tampa, Florida, makes dog and cat food, treats, supplements and grooming products.

"We want to help all of the pet shelters that help animals and do good every year,” said talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, a company co-owner. "The Petco Foundation wants to award deserving animal shelters.”

More details about the contest are available at PetcoFoundation.org.

We thank Petco for offering this contest. Our dog from Golden Beginnings Rescue Shelter has been entered. They as well rely on donations. She has one eye and is a special needs dog but when we found her we needed her as much as she needed us.

Wonderfull Idea. As a fairly new non profit exotic bird sanctuary in Pensacola FL we will be submitting our application in hopes of building our financial resources as they are very limited and rely on small donations to the Park.
