Day 1 At The AFA Convention
I've arrived in Portland and after unpacking and getting the lay of the land, I began to see the members of the American Federation of Aviculture arrive and register on day one of the 2014 Conference in Portland, Oregon.

The first day is spent attending to details and finalizing setting up the conference. Boxes of merchandise and products are still arriving as are the attendees. There is an offsite tour of the Oregon Zoo, to see birds of course and many people at the conference will be boarding a bus to take them there for a special tour along with a boxed lunch.

There was a delegates' meeting in the morning and this evening there will be some great events. I'll be presiding over the "Iron Chop" competition where teams compete to make the best fresh chopped mixed vegetable dishes for their flocks. Also, a "Bling Your Cage" contest will happen where contestants try to outdo each other to create the most creative and most enriching cage for a parrot, filled with tours and foraging items.

We're all looking forward to these events and we'll have photos for you to enjoy! In the meantime, have a peek at some shots of day one of the AFA Conference in Portland.
