Parrots & Pop Rocks: Is This "Dumb and Dumber To" Ad Funny Or Offensive?

Or is it just dumb?

Jessica Pineda

Let me start with a disclaimer: I've never seen Dumb and Dumber. (Or if I have, I've forgotten about it.) I have no real context for this scene outside the 5-minute Google search I did to understand the reference. I wasn't impressed, but this isn't my kind of humor either.

I get it. Dumb and Dumber is probably one of those movies you like for the wrong reasons. We all have movies like that. So, looking at this picture, I'm trying not to get too mad. (And not just about the parrots.) I understand that the very premise of the question lends itself to the movie title. And hey, this gag might not even work because parrots don't have saliva (though their crop is another story...).

All I can say is this:

If anyone tries this with your bird, throw pop rocks at them.

However, I invite you all to leave a comment and tell us exactly what you think.*

Also, here's some nice movies that feature parrots.

Remember though, this is a family friendly site, so no curse words.

Sure, it's kind of funny given the premise of the movie. BUT..We all know the show "Jackass" and "Beevis and Butthead" were not meant to be reality and how many young teens tried to copy the actions of those characters? Enough to cause controversy if memory serves. I feel like the type of person (besides those of us who love throwbacks), would also be the type of person who wouldn't think twice about mimicking it. I liked how Linda said it: "influences insensitive minds". Producers clearly did not think this through and some poor bird out there will suffer for it, I'm sure. Very dangerous.

I'm not a vet but I'm guessing the pop rocks could injure a birds crop. The editors at Birdtalk are morons for publishing this

Animals used in comedic movies or TV commercials, nearly always send a dangerous message that influences insensitive minds and promotes animal cruelty.

Please take a stand against this type of ignorance. Write letters to let the moviemakers know that you will boycott all movies and TV commercials that exploit animals and promote animal cruelty.

Movies that depict animals in humiliating situations, or when an animal is used as a "funny" prop, or inadvertently forgotten about in a storyline, are just as offensive and send the wrong message.

It is 'dumbest' and extremely offensive. Just a movie, sure. But there are always some crazies who love to do what they see in a movie. They think everything is funny, sometimes to the point of injuring an animal. So, to me, it is extremely offensive, in bad taste, and totally without thought on the part of the movie makers.
Just to make my point, and this is a totally innocent example, how many people go out and purchase bunnies because it is Easter and they think it is cute, or the 101 Dalmatians movie, where people thought how cute and went out and purchased a dog like that, or purse pets bcause they see actresses tote them around.....and the list can go on and on and on.
