An open band ( not solid) is seen on birds that were imported. Closed bands were put on the birds leg when they are very young and indicates that the bird was captive bred. On the closed bands the first set of letters are the initials of an organization or breeder responsible for breeding. The second set of sideways letters indicates the state where the bird was hatched. Birds can be bred anywhere but most come from warm weather states where the birds can be kept outside. The third set of numbers is determined by the breeder. For instance 035 May be the thirty fifth hatching of that breeder. If the bird came from a large breeding organization you may be able to locate them on the web and contact them for information about your bird. However due the high number of "backyard breeders" you may may be unable to locate the origin of your bird. There are some registries available on the web but they do not include all breeders. Good luck with your search!

Hey my names Jen and I bought a bird that was previously owned at Magic Isle in Centerreach. The clerk had no info on him other than someone couldn't keep him anymore. He is a yellow face II with a green band AAAAA5720. I don't know if it's a breeder band or from a pet shop like Petco. If anyone can help me in the right direction or know this breeder or can discipher the band to find his age. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-Jen

If you find a lost bird with a band and are looking for the owner, look up the band code on:

Hopefully the bird was registered and you can trace the breeder, which can hopefully lead to the owner.

Were you qualified to own a conure? or was your only qualification that you had enough cash to do so. If you do not have belief that parrots should be gotten in such a manner then do not support it by buying them!

I have recently purchased a GREEN CHEEKED CONURE from PETSMART in AIKEN, SC and normally I don't agree with selling these guys at Petstores to who ever can pay the $. I believe they should be adopted and those people should be able to qualify to take them.... but back to the point. I'm looking for more information on him/her.. really interested in AGE.. Leg band reads TIM (sideways FL) 7309... I'm sure if i had the breeder info he/she could tell me the age.

I also found a white bird (maybe pigeon??). After doing some research, it appears that the 4 numbers represent the year hatched and banned, e.g. 2004 and the other number is the specific number of that bird assigned by the bird club. BUT, I can't find the right club. I have PHX on my bird???

I would like to know where my bird came from and how old he is. His leg band is 83655G with a vertical 96. I am wondering if that would be the year he was borned/hatched. I have rescued "Charlie" from certain cruelity. I dont believe that it was intention but they smoked so heavly that my Quaker was not green but brown and smelt horribly of cigarettes. I only recieved partial information from my aunt, who was the go between, but I do know that the Quaker was re-homed before these people. If he is 13 years old I feel extremely bad for him. From what I know Quakers are suppose to talk... he doesn't. He barely after a month with me is squaking every now and again. He shivers when I hold him like a frightened dog. I know I have to be patient and I am. I want to him to have a happy and joyful life.

I adopted an Umbrella Cockatoo with an open leg band. My Vet said that it's a quarantine band and has the following letters and numbers: CWU991 or CWO991 The band is worn so it's hard to tell if it's a "U" or an "O". I'm trying to figure out where she came from and how old she could possibly be.

I have a Sun Conure that was given to me about two years ago in Houston, Texas. Rico has a leg band on his left leg. I have been checking band id sites with no mention of my birds particular code. It is as follows: AGB AL 07. The AL is upper case and rotated 90 degrees Clockwise to the rest of the code.
