The Brookfield Zoo celebrates Cookie the cockatoo's 75th birthday this year.

Put on your party hats – Cookie the cockatoo is turning 75!

The public is invited to join the Chicago Zoological Society in celebrating the birthday of the Brookfield Zoo’s longest-staying resident, a Major Mitchell's cockatoo, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the zoo’s Perching Bird House.

In true party spirit, the zookeepers will sing “Happy Birthday” and present the cockatoo with a muffin-size cake created just for him. Live children’s music will play throughout the day. In addition, the Avicultural Society of Chicagoland will also present their annual “Bird-day” present from the proceeds of their Midwest Bird Expo held on April 5, 2008.

Cookie, the guest of honor, is the only remaining member of the Brookfield Zoo’s original animal collection from when the zoo first opened 1934. Nearly 120 million visitors have walked the grounds since, with the chance to see the parrot.

For more information about Cookie’s big day, visit the Brookfield Zoo’s website or call 708-688-8000.
