Zeigler Bros. Feed, Inc. experienced a plant fire in its facility located in Gardner, Pa., on Sunday, February 25, 2007. There is an ongoing investigation for the cause of the fire, which is currently unknown.
The facility that was affected made shrimp and aquaculture feeds. No injuries resulted from the fire. “We had people there on Saturday, but because it’s the off-season for shrimp, that facility was not opened or occupied at the time of the fire,” said Ian Bessell, Zeigler sales specialist.
Bessell said that the other two facilities, where Zeigler’s pet and zoo diets are made, were not affected and the fire will not affect the shipping of any pet or consumer diets products.
Plans are underway to rebuild the facility. “While it’s obviously a tragedy, it’s not going to put the company out of business,” Bessell said. “The important thing is that no one was hurt, the building was insured, and it doesn’t affect our ability to continue doing business out of our other facilities.”
