The Long Island Parrot Society (LIPS) has introduced a "New Bird Owner Welcome Packet" that is distributed for free to Long Island, New York pet shops and veterinary offices. The packets are assembled by volunteers and contain information about the basic care of companion birds and their safety. The packets also include important contact information for area veterinarians and bird sitters, LIPS, the SPCA and other emergency numbers. A LIPS card and an emergency notification card ("In case of emergency, I have pets that need attention ...") are enclosed.
Bird food samples and a subscription form for Bird Talk are also included in the packet. New York area pet shops, pet sitters and veterinarians are encouraged to obtain a supply of the packets. LIPS is willing to share a sample packet with other organizations. The packets are available for $3 each. For more information, contact the Long Island Parrot Society, P.O.
