Nominations for the annual Humane Awards are being accepted until August 31, 2006, 12PM (EST) by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A committee created by the ASPCA will select the winners. The winners will be honored at the Humane Awards Luncheon in New York City at the Rainbow Room on November 2, 2006.
Nominations can be made in the following categories:
ASPCA Dog of the Year – for a dog that has performed a heroic act in the past year.
ASPCA Cat of the Year – for a cat that has performed a heroic act in the past year.
ASPCA Lifetime Achievement – for a person over 50 years old who has contributed years to animal welfare service.
ASPCA Legislator of the Year – for a legislator who has contributed to animal welfare by working to change laws in their state or nationwide.
ASPCA Community Activist – for a local community activist who has done something outstanding for an animal.
ASPCA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year – for a member of a police force or other public service officer who made a heroic effort to save an animal.

Submitted nominations should include a brief description (75 words or less) on why the person is being nominated along with the nominee’s name, category for which he or she is being nominated, street address, e-mail address and telephone number.
