Two major genera make up the general category of conures where more than 50 individual bird species are grouped: Aratingas (the louder, more boisterous species) and Pyrrhura (more demure, often smaller species). There are several other species of conures such as the Nanday and the Patagonian that do not belong to either of these genera.
These small to medium-sized, mostly South American, parrots charm pet owners and breeders alike with their clownish, noisy behavior that sometimes lands them in trouble. Conures always want to be in the middle of the action, and they’ll work to win over your attention and affection.
