Pacific Parrotlet Species Profile
Traits:  Consider the most popular of the parrotlet species, the Pacific parrotlet is full of energy and enjoys being included in family activities. Similar in personality to Amazon parrots, pacific parrotlets are intelligent and affectionate pet birds. Active Pacific parrotlets like to swing and play with toys. They also require a cage large enough to accommodate their activities. They can also be aggressive, but because they can be properly trained and easily managed compared to larger parrots.

Behavior/Health Concerns:  The Pacific parrotlet can be aggressive and curious, so watch out for accidents. Socialization at a young age is key to having a well-behaved Pacific parrotlet. Because Pacific parrotlets are feisty and fearless, they require attention and interaction when out of the cage to avoid injury. They also have a voracious appetite and may require more food than a similarly sized bird, such as a lovebird. The wings, backs, rumps and streaks behind the eyes of a male Pacific parrotlet are a dark cobalt color. Females have emerald green eye streaks and their faces are light green. Females in a subspecies of Pacific parrotlets dark teal or turquoise rumps, backs, eye streaks and sometimes wings. The males of this subspecies have bright, wide eye streaks and their wings and backs are silver gray. Males usually learn to talk, while females rarely talk.
