Red-Cheeked Cordon Bleu Finch Species Profile
Traits:  This bird species relatively undemanding; finches prefer to play amongst themselves, and therefore are a good choice for someone who enjoys birds but may not be able to interact closely with them every day (as is needed with parrot species). Finches are generally friendly and can be housed with similar-sized finches and other hardbills. Although this species is generally not hand-tame, they make lively, interesting and entertaining pets.

Behavior/Health Concerns:  Finches get their exercise by flying, and they need room for short flights. An indoor aviary, if possible, provides the best housing for the cordon bleu red cheeked finch. Access to daily baths is important for this species. They tend to do best in a large, planted aviary with mixed species.

Expert Advice
"Red-cheeked cordon bleus need extra protein than most finches to breed and feed their babies, so live food or protein-rich egg food daily is required. They are lively and social, and can be housed in mixed aviaries with other non-aggressive species."
